Today we have a guest blogger who writes about the different characters from Peter Pan. For those of you who are considering using Peter Pan as a theme this year for Halloween costumes, this can be a refresher on the characters from Peter Pan.
Peter Pan Costume - Lessons From the Peter Pan Costumes and Characters
Last night I watched the animated Disney film, Peter Pan. I watched it to see the costumes, but I ended up learning things from the characters and their costumes that surprised me. Here's what I saw and learned.
The Peter Pan Costume
The Peter Pan costume is green tights, a short green tunic with a zig zag hem, a brown belt holding a dagger, a green hat with a red feather and soft brown pointy shoes. Peter has bright red hair. Males and females can wear Peter Pan costumes.
Peter Pan is a leader who can fly. He's firm in his resolve to stay in Neverland and never grow up. He is loyal and stands up for himself and for his beliefs.
Lessons from Peter PanPeter shows you how to stand up for what you believe in. He shows you how to be playful and clever while getting things done. Peter teaches you that only by being happy, can you truly fly in your life. He demonstrates how to take delight in your own good deeds. He represents your desire to stay forever young.
Tinker Bell
The Tinkerbell costume is a short pale green strapless dress with a zig zag hem. Tink wears slippers with a big white shimmering ball on the toe, has blond hair in a pony tail and has sparkly, iridescent wings. Tinkerbell costumes look great on toddlers, little girls, teens and women.
Tinker Bell is sexy, feisty, jealous, scheming, vindictive, self-righteous, and loyal.
Lessons from Tinkerbell
Through Tinkerbell, you learn that there are consequences to your actions. Tinkerbell is so jealous of the love between Wendy and Peter Pan, that she nearly gets Peter Pan killed.
Tinkerbell teaches that if you only think of yourself, you can easily hurt others, even those you love, and you can put yourself in danger too.
Captain Hook
Disney made Captain Hook look distinguished, flamboyant and sophisticated. His debonair look is in stark contrast to his scheming, dishonorable ways.
Captain Hook costumes, following the Disney movie, have a pink shirt with white ruffle at the neck, burgundy pants, white knee socks and black pointy boots with a gold buckle; red sash at the waist. All topped with a red knee-length jacket with gold trim and a large floppy burgundy hat with a huge white feather. The hook is on his left arm, gold or silver. He carried a long silver and gold sword. He had long black hair and a long mustache.
Captain Hook is not a nice guy. He is a villain -- scheming, heartless, dishonest and sinister. He is well-dressed and he is a coward, terrified of the ticking crocodile that bit off his left hand.
Lessons from Captain Hook
Captain Hook shows us that what counts is not what you look like outside, but what you are inside. Hook’s actions show that if you put out hatred and cruelty, that's what you'll get back. You may gather a band of pirates around you by being a bully. But they'll only stay with you because they fear you; they will never be your true friends.
Wendy
Wendy is the mother figure of the movie. The Wendy costume is a simple, long light blue flowing gown with a darker blue sash at the bodice and blue bow in her hair. Wendy is loving, loyal, caring, trusting, sweet, pure, honest and brave.
Lessons from Wendy
Wendy teaches you that it's ok to grow up. Wendy shows that family is important. She shows how to trust your instincts and be true to yourself with courage, whether it's to learn to fly or even to risk you own life in walking the plank. The lesson of Wendy is that if your heart is pure, all will be well.
I love the wide range of personality options the Peter Pan costumes include. For one day, you can shed your inhibitions and fly, be feisty and jealous, stand up for what you believe in, stay forever young, be scheming and hurtful, or be loyal and caring. You can either be more of who you really are, try out your opposite, or be a character you'd like to be more like. Maybe the Captain Hook, Tinkerbell, Wendy or Peter Pan costume is the one for you!
